DAY 27 :: Jan 27

P.S. I have a funny looking body...

DAY 26 :: Jan 26

Sometimes you just have to tell yourself to Buck up and do a deer!

DAY 25 :: Jan 25

Paper Craft fun! I found an easy pattern for a buck here!  I printed one full scale and the little guy I think was 70% of the size and I cut off his last antler. I also made a doe, but I think she looks like a dog, so I didn't post her. Here's what they look like.

DAY 24 :: Jan 24

So my problem lately is not necessarily doing the deer, but posting and recording the deer... In all honesty I think I drew this deer on Jan 23.  More colored pencils. This has been a late week with lots going on. I haven't putting the colored pencils away yet. Oh yeah and this one used charcoal too. There not much different but I have to be honest. This is the most drawing I've done in four years...

DAY 23 :: Jan 23

So I worked a little on the triangle deer. This is what I have so far. I can't decided if I like the darker background better or the lighter... Justin said...darker.

DAY 22 :: Jan 22

Triangle Deer! This one was very fun. I would like to improve on this one in the computer...

DAY 21 :: Jan 21

I used to love colored pencils. Here is what I did with them tonight.
I'm very self-conscience about my hand drawing. I'm not very good, but I'm trying. I just don't have good control over my hands.

DAY 20 :: Jan 20

So this was technically supposed to be for yesterday, but I messed up. I actually went to the Town Peddler on Sunday and did this post on Saturday. But as long as they are accounted for, were all good.

On Saturday, I went to the Ice Festival, hopping a nicely carved ice deer would be there. But that didn't happen. I couldn't see anything, so I came home and played Awkward Family Photos. It was very fun. There are a lot of Awkward Photos that involve animals. Dogs, snakes, frogs, tigers, birds, horse or camel, possum... there were more, pigs, cats...
The only one that involve a deer was this center one. This lovely christmas photo rocking out the antlers. Maybe me and Justin will take our next christmas picture like this! I'm thinking we could submit a photo with our deer heads. I'll work on that...

So maybe "Oh 'deer'" just came out of my mouth every time we turned over a photo!

DAY 19 :: Jan 19

Justin and I visited the Town Peddler  (antique and craft mall) and this is what we saw...

DAY 18 :: Jan 18

This had to be a good idea. It was the second one I received.
This is getting harder... I love getting ideas guys. They have been flowing in and always welcome. This idea is complements of Megan and Cheryl (and I think Caitlin)! Thanks!

DAY 17 :: Jan 17

Remember Pearler Beads? I didn't know this is what they were called, but I remember playing with them. I thought the way the deer was ironed it looked like a halftone...and I liked it!
 I had so much fun that I had to make an arrow too!

DAY 16 :: Jan 16

Yummy Venison stew! That's what was for dinner. It was a very simple recipe. You just...
Put stew meat (sorry I don't know what else that is called) in the crock pot. Cut up an onion put it on top of the stew meat. Put 2 cans of diced tomatoes with chiles or jalapanos on top. Then sprinkle a packet of taco seasoning over top. Cook for 5 hours on high or 7 hours on low. Next add 1 can of kidney beans (drained and rinsed) and 1 can of pinto beans (drained and rinsed) and 1 10 oz bag of frozen corn. Cook for one more hour. Top like chili. Thanks Cooking Light! They are a new favorite of mine.

DAY 15 :: Jan 15

I felt brave today and went back to the old marker and paper.
This was first that inspired the whole deer. Then I went back to my architecture days and tried some stylized trees. Its not perfect. My stokes weren't all the same way like they should be. But I still had a lot of fun doing it. :)

DAY 14 :: Jan 14

I'm not even a month into this and I still have a lot of ideas. However I like it when a deer shows up on my door step... no not literally.
A package from my sister! And in the bottom of this package there was a deer.
And a little monkey for Justin. We actually now have a monkey, giraffe and a mermaid. Thanks Mel!

DAY 13 :: Jan 13

So before I even decided I was going to do "A deer a day" I bought myself a little present. Target had a mug I just could not pass up this christmas. So I treated myself a little hot chocolate. This cup is so cute, it came with a tiny little spoon and says Oh Deer!
P.S. Photoshop has stopped working on my computer it won't even open. So until I go get the disc from my parents house which conveniently just got packed up, my images will only be worked on Illustrator. That means type and crop only... And its killing me. I guess this is the motivation to move the rest of my stuff out of my room. It's only been 2 years...

DAY 12 :: Jan 12

Saturday was a busy day filled with family activity. But the night ended up at Jared's house (Justin's brother). Let me tell you that Jared is a much more decorated hunter at least at this time, but he is the one who got Justin into hunting. We hung out in his newly finished basement and I was inspired by how he displayed these antlers.
Maybe I will use this as inspiration for Bucky's room. But maybe not for a couple years seeing as we only have one set of antlers in this form so far. Maybe after shed hunting...

DAY 11 :: Jan 11

This little felt _________. I'm not sure what she is going to be yet, maybe a patch, keychain, pin, etc. any ideas? I like her eyelashes.

DAY 10: Jan 10

Its catch up day! I plan on doing this same piece again one day in sketch form, but I'm not brave enough yet to pick of the pen or pencil or markers. But I have 11 more months to buck up!

DAY 9 :: Jan 9

Ok. I think I'm going to have to rethink my rules. I felt bad for not posting anything yesterday after I got caught up, but the truth of the matter is I worked on this little girl for three days. So I will just have to make it up this weekend. A lot of these projects that I plan to do I'm sure will take more then one day, so I think the plan will be, 365 projects in 365 days.

I think this little girl is a cutie. If you want to make her too, this is where I found the pattern.

I'm sure since felt is a new favorite medium of mine, you will be seeing more felt crafts!

DAY 8 :: Jan 8

Yarn bombing, yarnbombing, yarnstorming, guerrilla knitting, urban knitting or graffiti knitting is a type of graffiti or street art that employs colorful displays of knitted or crocheted yarn or fibre rather than paint or chalk. (as defined by Wikipedia)

DAY 7 :: Jan 7

Notice :: Today is Jan. 7, this is posted on Jan. 7. I'm caught up.

So by doing this 365 project I want to improve a lot of things as far as design is concerned. I am working on my type and illustration and working with mediums I have not used or been good at before. I EXPECT SOME OF THESE PROJECT TO... NOT LOOK PERFECT! But I also want this project to be fun and crafty.

So today I got crafty! I made a deer form with some wire, then wrapped sections for visual interest and to hide my flaws with embroidery thread.

I need a glue gun to glue the bottom foot together and then I will wrap that in green thread. Nothing else that I can think of will hold wire together.

Unlike yesterday, I like how this turned out. :)

DAY 6 :: Jan 6

Dinner!

I found a recipe in Cooking Light magazine that I thought would be good. It was real easy, just cook a steak and put this delicious horseradish butter stuff on top.

Well I forgot that I don't know how to cook steak, Justin always does that. And on top of that Venison is not as forgiving as Beef. I would compare its temperament more like cooking porkchops. It cooks fast and if you cook it one second to long it is VERY tough. I over-cooked it. It was not good. :(

Thats ok, the meal didn't have good color to it anyways.

DAY 5 :: Jan 5

Hide and Seek.

DAY 4 :: Jan 4

I have decided to create some wallpaper based on this little song. However, I am only going to post Doe for now, the other still need a little work.

Doe, a deer, a female deer
Ray, a drop of golden sun
Me, a name I call myself
Far, a long long way to run
Sew, a needle pulling thread
La, a note to follow sew
Tea, I drink with jam and bread
That will bring us back to do...oh oh oh

DAY 3 :: Jan 3

The difference between a Doe and a Buck. As always, ladies first.

DAY 2 :: Jan 2

OK. So here is when I began to stretch it. Already. I was sick with the flu. So I'm going to say I stayed home and hung out with Bucky.

DAY 1 :: Jan. 1

So its not really Jan.1 today when I am posting this. And most likely it won't be on time, ever. But Accounting for day 1, this is the blog header. A typography bit with the word deer in it.

Project 365

Project 365 is all about doing something everyday for a year. My sister got me this book for Christmas (2 years ago). I started this project once but it latest about two days. This year I have a couple people doing it with me and I hope to be more successful.

I have decided to do "A deer a day." I didn't know much about deer until I dated a hunter. Now that we are married I have expanded my knowledge. I now eat and cook venison and look forward to Oct. 1 and Nov. 15!

Two years ago he got his first 8 point buck and I have the exciting challenge of making it look good in my house. On Pinterest I started a board called "Bucky's Room" and this started my fascination with deer. That is how I arrived at "A deer a day."

I have a few ideas for this project or activities to do...

deer illustrations
sketches...
new venison recipes
hunting...with a camera
searching for antlers
painting arrows
clay or wire creations
felt deer
and much more!

ENJOY!
